SMS Messaging Guidelines — ClientStack

Texting your customers is a great way to stay connected, but phone carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc.) have rules in place to prevent spam. Following these simple guidelines keeps your messages landing in your customers' inbox instead of getting blocked.

1. Only text people who said yes

Only send SMS to contacts who gave you permission to text them. Avoid purchased lists or texting people who haven't opted in.

2. Let people know who you are and how to opt out

Your first message to a new contact should include:

  • Your business name
  • A note that they can reply STOP to unsubscribe

Don't worry if you forget. FoneToolz™ automatically adds this information to your first message if it's missing.

3. New numbers start with a lower daily limit

New phone numbers begin with a smaller daily sending limit. This increases gradually over time as you consistently send messages, eventually reaching 3,000+ messages per day. This is standard across the texting industry and helps protect your number's reputation.

4. Respect opt-outs

If a contact replies STOP, they're automatically removed from future messages. They can only receive texts again if they reply START, YES, or UNSTOP.

5. We monitor for delivery issues

If too many of your messages fail to deliver, or too many contacts opt out, SMS sending may be temporarily paused to protect your number. If this happens, our team will reach out with next steps.

Bottom line: As long as you're messaging contacts who've agreed to hear from you, you shouldn't run into any issues.

FAQ

Q: What happens if my number gets blocked or paused?
A: We'll reach out right away to explain why and help you get it resolved. This is usually caused by too many failed deliveries or opt-outs, and it's fixable.

Q: How long until my daily sending limit increases?
A: It happens automatically over time as you send messages consistently. There's no action needed on your end.

Q: Can I text someone again after they reply STOP?
A: No, not unless they text back START, YES, or UNSTOP on their own. We can't manually re-add them for compliance reasons.

Q: Who do I contact if I have questions about this?
A: Reach out to me directly; I'm happy to walk you through it.
